Submitting materials
Submitted materials must be in composite PDF file format distilled strictly from postscript files using Acrobat Distiller with Press Quality settings.
PDF files exported directly from desktop publishing software (mainly in the case of InDesign and Illustrator users) or directly saved PDF files are not equivalent to those that have been distilled from postscript files, thus their usage should be avoided. In such cases it has recently occurred many times that different artifacts appeared during lighting (often not noticeable even in the RIP).
- Colour profile: ISO Coated v2 (downloadable from eci.org), but other standard European colour profiles are also suitable, e.g. FOGRA27.
- The colour profile must not be embedded to the PDF file, it is to be used during the prepress and image processing phase.
- Composite CMYK colours must be used in creating the PDF file, colour separation has to be avoided. The PDF file can only contain direct colours if they actually get to be printed.
- It must contain neither RGB images, nor RGB fillings. Their usage is to be avoided even during prepress.
- The file is to contain images in proper resolution (300 dpi).
- Fonts are always to be embedded.
- Trim size must be concordant to the page size as it is set in the desktop publishing software.
- The PDF file must contain at least a 3mm bleed over the trim size. Crop marks are to be shifted concordant to the size of the bleed, a 5mm bleed on the printed material does not make any difference if crop marks and trim lines are for example 2,12 mm away from the cut.
- In the case of punched materials the overall size of the punch must be concordant to the page size as it is set in the desktop publishing software. Do not use a sheet of arbitrary size for printing!
- Pages in the PDF file must be aligned separately; under no circumstances should you use spreads (neither in terms of launch, nor in terms of sequence), because it usually results in considerable extra work. We make the launch with digital fitment.
- Blank (vacant) pages must always be inserted in the PDF file (Print blank pages option should be checked).
